Frequently Asked Questions About Kidz On Deck
At Aurora Church of the Nazarene
FAQ
WHAT IS KIDZ ON DECK?
Kidz On Deck is a new concept for children in grades kindergarten through grade 6 that involves parents and children coming together to hear the message through the use of high-energy music, drama, choreography and technology. The goal is to open up discussion and interaction between children and parents about spiritual issues, using virtues and character values as themes.
DO I SIT WITH MY KIDS?
No. Children sit on the floor in the front half of the auditorium while parents sit on chairs in the back half.
WHY KIDZ ON DECK?
Like most churches, Aurora Church of the Nazarene has used Kids' Church and Sunday school to meet the needs of kids. Yet, in spite of great effort by lay workers and staff, it is harder and harder for parents to build bridges with their child. Many of us who are parents have dropped off our children at Kids' Church to later ask them, "So what did you learn in kids' church?" only to hear the dreaded words, "I don't know", frustrating worker and parent. We have a new solution-Kidz On Deck!
HOW DOES KIDZ ON DECK TIE IN WITH SUNDAY SCHOOL AND WORSHIP?
ACN offers small groups at 9:00 a.m. and a worship service at 10:15 a.m. Kidz on Deck is offered at 9:00 a.m. and Upper Deck Kidz is offered at 10:15 a.m.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THE PARENT OR CAREGIVER IN KIDZ ON DECK?
As a parent or caregiver, you are required to take your children to Kidz On Deck rather than drop them off and leave. We believe this time investment is best made by the parent or caregiver. You need to check your children in to the day's program before 9:00 a.m. Those children staying for the entire morning will be taken to the Upper Deck Kidz at 10:15 a.m., the time that the worship service begins in the main auditorium. No child will be admitted to Kidz on Deck without an adult.
WHAT IF A CHILD DOESN'T HAVE A PARENT PRESENT OR IS DROPPED OFF?
Unfortunately, we live in a fallen world where security of the child must be at the top of the list of everything we do. Therefore, we believe every child must have supervision by the person who brought them for their protection and for the protection of the church. If you are bringing a child, you must accompany them. We have an "adopt a child" program for a child who comes the first time and is not aware of the parent requirement. However, there are a limited number of spots available. After the child has attended, a letter will be sent home inviting the parent to experience what their child attended the previous Sunday. If they do not come, the next week a phone call will be made and a second letter will be sent home again, inviting them to experience Kidz On Deck. We believe parents are interested in what is occurring in the lives of their children and will want to see what their children are being exposed to. The child's desire to be here will be a strong draw to see them become a part of this ministry. Some parents will be involved in ministry and cannot be present with their children; these children will be assigned to "adopted" adults who will be responsible for them.
